Tunnel Vision and Sports Card Investing
And when I say “tunnel vision,” I mean you’re stuck looking at the same things you’ve been looking at for far too long.
When was the last time you changed your eBay saved searches?
Why are you still putting money into players you bought last year that didn’t work out, only because they’re cheaper now?
Have you adjusted which kinds of cards you’re targeting as the market has shifted (far) away from base cards and less-rare parallels like silver prizes?
If you don’t have good answers to any of the above questions, it’s time to reevaluate.
The sports card market is constantly changing, and so should your investment strategy.
By regularly reevaluating your sports card investments, you can ensure that your portfolio is properly diversified and that you’re not overexposed to any one player or team.
You can also take advantage of new opportunities as they arise – but not if you’re stuck in the past.
I love Luka Doncic as a player. He’s extremely talented and I believe in him long-term.
But buying high-pop base cards or silver prizms as an investment simply doesn’t make sense to me with where the market is right now.
It may have worked in 2020 and 2021, but that doesn’t mean it’ll work right now.
It’s time to stop living in the past and update your strategy and buy list so you can get away from stale inventory and make more money.
